Strathcona Wilderness Centre – AX-Max Treatment Plant

The Strathcona Wilderness is a four season outdoor adventure centre; known for their world class cross-country ski trails, hiking/snowshoeing trails, wildlife viewing and their various summer/winter camps.  The original onsite wastewater treatment plant was installed back in 1999 was using a complicated arrangement of concrete tanks and PVC pipe.

Over the recent years, the existing treatment plant had failed to meet current provincial onsite wastewater regulations, indicating that a major update to the wastewater treatment plant was required.  The Wilderness centre was in search for a product capable of producing reliable effluent quality that would meet or exceed the current regulations.  On top of this, the installation needed to be quick and easy with minimal disturbance to the environment.  Orenco’s AX-Max treatment plant quickly became the favored treatment plant as it was able to deliver on all the requested demands.

In late October of 2018 the existing treatment plant was quickly removed and the AX-Max125 was installed in its place.  The quick installation allowed the Wilderness Centre to remain open for their busiest season, the cross-country ski season.  Currently the treatment plant is in full operation creating effluent quality less than 15mg/L for both BOD and TSS; roughly half the required treatment level.

Altalink Stormwater Lift Station

Altalink was in need of a way to control the discharge of their stormwater pond into the county collection system.  A lift station that is linked to their stormwater pond proved to be the ideal solution.  The wet well contained two Ebara 5 HP pumps, each capable of pumping 300 USGPM at 33 feet of total dynamic head was provided.  Each pump featured a hardened volute and impeller that would reduce any wear that could have been seen from any possible grit, sand or silt entering the lift station.

Ebara Quick Disconnect Connect pump bases with stainless steel guide rails were used to allow an easy removal of each pump if necessary.  The control panel featured a TCOM control panel from Orenco, manufactured to the specifications of the pumps.  Cast iron ball valves and plug valves, along with stainless steel pipe were the material of choice for the discharge pipe.  To isolate the lift station from the stormwater pond, a knife-gate valve was provided on the inlet. The handle on the knife-gate valve was extended to the top of the lift station to easily isolate the lift station.

Azuridge Project

Azuridge Resort – AX100 Treatment Plant

Azuridge is a luxury hotel known for its breathtaking views of the rolling foothills located near Priddis Alberta. With the addition of the at-grade sewage disposal system, the hotel was in search of a reliable and consistent sewage treatment plant. However, the small window of time allowed for installation (approximately 2 months) and the given footprint of land allowed for the treatment plant proved to be a challenge for most treatment plants of this caliber.

With the help of Orenco’s engineering team and AWS expertise in the field, a couple of AX100 treatment plants rouse as the solution of choice. Within a couple of weeks the required precast tanks and AX100 wastewater treatment plants were on site and ready for installation. The design of the onsite sewage disposal system required the effluent to meet minimum standards of 25 mg/L cBOD and 30 mg/L of total suspended solids (TSS). The treatment plant has been
